Reach for the stars to achieve the possible!

In line with this motto, Bremen is extending an invitation to STERNSTUNDEN 2018 in Bremen’s Space Year. From January to October, the city will play host to over 100 events organised with cooperation partners from the worlds of economics, science and culture revolving around the topic of space travel and the cosmos. The Hanseatic City as Germany’s most important space city − with, among other things, the European Galileo mission shaped by Bremen through the Ariane 5 launch vehicle − is one of the most important spaceflight locations in Europe with approximately 12,000 employees in 140 companies and 20 institutes. For this reason, the world’s largest spaceflight congress IAC will take place here from 1th to 5th October for the second time since 2003, with 4,000 participants from 60 countries. As well as specialist visitors, interested amateurs are also invited to get a taste of the congress on a public day on 5th October. After all, the topic of aeronautics has a growing fan base − not least due to current findings, which are later utilized on our home planet, such as the use of satellites for weather forecasts or of technologies for preparing drinking water.

Even the Bremen carnival had the motto “Lost in Space” and the International Festival of Street Arts, “La Strada”, pays homage to the cosmos. Leading Bremen-based aerospace companies such as the Airbus Group and ArianeGroup, the Center for Applied Space Technology and Microgravity (ZARM) and the German Aerospace Center (DLR) are offering visitors the opportunity to participate in sightseeing and guided tours, while the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) and the Institute for Aerospace Technology (IAT) are contributing with an open day. The appropriate finale to the event is provided by the final concert of the programme in Bremen’s concert hall – “Die Glocke” – with a world premiere of the Bremen International Youth Symphony Orchestra. In line with Space Year, the ATLANTIC Hotel Universum and the ATLANTIC Hotel Airport are offering tailor-made packages under the sign of the stars.
