Antarctica – a destination that may seem inaccessible at first glance. With an area of 14,000,000 km², Antarctica is the largest nature reserve on Earth. First explored 200 years ago, today up to 3,500 researchers live here temporarily, sharing the eternal ice with 208 species of fish and numerous species of penguin. Experiencing this special environment for once in their lives and capturing the adventure on film was what inspired Michael Ginzburg, Tim David Müller-Zitzke and Dennis Vogt to make the film “Project: Anta rctica. The Journey of Our Lives”. They decided that if they were going to travel to the ice at all, then it had to be the largest, oldest and most difficult ice to reach. With only one year to prepare, the three of them managed to make their dream come true and push themselves to their limits.
A turbulent journey to a daring destination
One of the sponsors of this extraordinary project is the ATLANTIC Hotel Sail City in Bremerhaven. With its “Green Sail” strategy, the hotel is highly committed to sustainability. By supporting the film, the hotel is demonstrating its dedication to society and the environment. “Project: Anta rctica” is expressly not just another documentary about penguins or climate change, the three filmmakers say – there are enough of those already. Instead, their film is about the journey, about achieving the goals they set themselves, even if these seemed as distant as the eternal ice itself. The film is a plea to turn your dreams into reality and overcome personal challenges. “Everyone has their own Antarctic, what’s yours?” asks the narrative voice of Dennis Vogt in the film. Deeper insight into the planning and implementation of the daring expedition can be found in the illustrated book on the film, which is available in the Regio-Shop of the ATLANTIC Hotel Sail City.
Tip: Visitors can find out more about “Antarctica” until 24.04.2019 in an exhibition of the same name at the Übersee-Museum Bremen.
