Im Mai letzten Jahres spielte das Metropol-Ensemble das kühle Wetter im Hofgarten ein- fach weg. Am 9. Juni geben die Jazz-klassiker die heißersehnte Zugabe – zum Open-Air-Event des Restaurants alto. Es wird geschlemmt, geplaudert und im Takt gewippt. Lässig-jazzig gelingt es dem Bremer Metropol- Ensemble, aus einem Grillabend im Hofgarten ein fröhliches Sommerfest zu machen. Ihre Fusion von Jazz und Klassik ist virtuos, aber doch so leicht, dass niemand steif sitzen bleiben muss. In diesem Jahr schon gar nicht: Das vierköpfige Ensemble bringt einen Gastmusiker mit, der sogar zum Tanzen verführen könnte. Stefan Dahm ist ein Hamburger Schlagzeuger, der den Groove in Instrument und Fingern hat. Mit seiner Unterstützung klingen welt- bekannte Melodien nicht nur neu, sondern gleich viel fetziger – ob „Skyfall“ von Adele, „La Fiesta“ von Chick Corea, ein Prélude von Cho- pin oder der Jazzstandard „Puttin’ on the Ritz“. Höhere Temperaturen sind dies- mal fest mit eingeplant. Der Jazz- abend im Hofgarten findet deshalb erst am 9. Juni statt. Doch selbst wenn die Sonne das Warm-up verweigern sollte – das Repertoire ist heiß genug. Irgendwo zwischen Komposition und Improvisation wird fast jedes musikalische Genre zitiert. Die Grundlage dafür bie- ten Film-Soundtracks, Big-Band- Sounds der 20er-, 30er-Jahre, argentinische Tangos, aber auch ganz eigene Werke. So stellt das Metropol-Ensemble u.a. Kost- proben seiner demnächst er- scheinenden CD „Nightbook“ vor. alto-Chef Daniel Otto macht sie schmackhaft. The classic jazz group will be giving their long- awaited encore on 9th June – at the alto restaurant open-air event. Eat, chat and enjoy the beat. The jazz sounds of Bremen’s Metropol Ensemble transform a barbecue eve- ning in the Hofgarten into a summer festival. They expertly master the fusion of jazz and classical, whilst keeping it so relaxed that nobody has to keep sitting formally in their seats. And certainly not at all this year: the four-strong ensemble is bringing a guest musician, who may even tempt you to get up and dance. Stefan Dahm is a drummer from Hamburg, who was born to create great rhythms. His support lends a new, cooler twist to world-famous pieces – whether it’s Adele’s “Skyfall”, Chick Corea’s “La Fiesta”, Chopin’s Prélude or the jazz classic “Puttin’ on the Ritz”. We are determined to make it even hotter this time, so the jazz evening in the Hofgarten has been put back to 9th June. But even if the sun refuses to warm things up, the repertoire is guaranteed to provide plenty of heat! Somewhere between composition and improvisation, almost every musical genre is cited. The numbers they perform are based on film soundtracks, big-band sounds of the 1920s and 30s, Argentinian tangos and also their very own pieces. For example, the Metropol Ensemble will be performing samples from its upcoming CD “Nightbook” with alto head chef Daniel Otto adding to the sensory experience.
