Das Metropol-Ensemble entstaubt die weltbekannten Filmmelodien mit frischem Jazz und virtuosem Können. „Jazzklassik“ nennen die vier Bremer ihren Musikstil. Das heißt, sie verbinden die verschie- denen Elemente des Jazz und der Klassik zu ganz neuen Klangbildern. Ihr „Crossover“ ist mal sanft, mal impulsiv und längst weit über Bremen hinaus bekannt. „Wir alle kommen aus ganz verschiedenen Ecken der Mu- sik“, erzählt der Violoncellist Gero John. „Die Inspiration entsteht aus unserer Begegnung. Außerdem wollten wir an unseren Instrumenten mal so richtig abgehen.“ Aus purem Spaß an der Spielfreude haben sie 2005 das Me- tropol-Ensemble gegründet. Die Besetzung wechselt je nach Veranstaltung und Thema. Beim „Cinema Paradiso“ am 7. Mai im Hofgarten des ATLANTIC Grand Hotels spielt Gero John mit Matthias Schinkopf (Saxofon, Percussion, Blockflöte), Martin Henkel (Kontrabass) und Nicolai Thein (Klavier). Das Programm hat das Ensemble speziell auf das Res- taurant alto und Daniel Ottos sommerlich-mediterranes Open-Air-Barbecue abgestimmt. „Wir geben kein Konzert, bei dem jeder Gast still sitzen muss“, sagt Gero John, „wir begleiten und beschwingen den Abend mit Kino für die Ohren.“ Worauf sich die Musiker besonders freuen, ist der Auftritt unter freiem Himmel. „Das ist immer etwas ganz Besonderes“, bestätigt John, „da ist die Stimmung einfach lockerer.“ \\\ Weitere Informationen zu Programm und Preis im „Culinaire“ auf Seite 5 \\\\\\\ When Daniel Otto, head chef of the alto restaurant, takes charge of the barbecue on 7th May , the soundtrack will be provided by the Metropol-Ensemble. Thrilling interpretations of Oscar-winning film scores will trans- form the Hofgarten into the “Cinema Paradiso”. Casablanca, Porgy and Bess, Last Tango in Paris, James Bond ... can you remember the soundtracks? If so, forget any arrangements you may have heard in the past. The Metropol-Ensemble dusts off these world-famous melodies and peps them up with energetic jazz and a dash of virtuoso brilliance. The four Bremen-based musicians call their style “jazz-classical”. In other words, they fuse various jazz and classical elements to create brand new sounds. Their “crossover” style is sometimes smooth and sometimes improvisational, and it has made a name for them far beyond Bremen. “We all come from different musical directions”, explained violoncellist Gero John. “The idea came when we got together. We also wanted to really let ourselves go on our instruments.” The Metropol-Ensemble was founded in 2005 as an expression of their sheer enjoyment of playing. The line-up changes depending on the theme and event. At the “Cinema Paradiso” event, which will be held in the Hofgarten of the ATLANTIC Grand Hotel on 7th May, Gero John will be playing with Matthias Schinkopf (saxophone, percussion, recorder), Martin Henkel (double bass) and Nicolai Thein (piano).
