The ATLANTIC Hotels began in 1990 in the Vegesack district of Bremen, where the investors Joachim J. Linnemann and Kurt Zech built a commercial building housing, among other things, a hotel. The ATLANTIC Hotel Vegesack, which opened in 1991, has 86 rooms, a breakfast restaurant with a terrace plus four conference rooms for up to 60 people and is run as a bed-and-breakfast hotel. A further restaurant in the same building is within easy reach of the hotel.

Thanks not least to the success of the hotel in Vegesack, a decision was made in 1996 to open a second hotel right opposite to the airport in Bremen. The ATLANTIC Hotel Airport is integrated into the Airport Center and has 112 rooms. Originally run as a bed-and-breakfast hotel, it was then expanded to include conference facilities for up to 250 people and the BLIXX restaurant on the 8th floor, overlooking the airport and Bremen city centre.

The UNIVERSUM complex was built on Bremen University campus, at the edge of Bremen’s city forest, as part of the Expo project UNIversum (Expo 2000 in Hanover). The concept was for a science centre, a conference centre and a hotel all to be closely integrated within the complex. To be able to offer overnight accommodation, conference facilities and a leisure programme within only a short distance of each other and the location right next door to the Technology Park are just two secrets of the success of ATLANTIC Hotel Universum. The hotel with its 150 double rooms and studios and design-oriented ambience, its CAMPUS restaurant and event facilities for up to 500 participants – some suitable for presenting vehicles – has added a new dimension to the Bremen hotel scene: a home from home where guests can enjoy the clarity, elegance and functionality of superb design.
The opening of the ATLANTIC Hotel Universum coupled with the introduction of a central accounting system and sales department as well as hotel management software from the market leader Micros Fidelio laid the foundation for the development of the ATLANTIC Hotels chain. What’s more, the hotel’s Contract World and red dot award-winning design set the tone for the interiors of the hotels that followed.

In 2005, the ATLANTIC Hotel an der Galopprennbahn was opened in Bremen’s Vahr district, right next door to the racecourse. The hotel has 121 double rooms, studios and suites, the DERBY restaurant and, in conjunction with the racecourse grandstand directly adjacent, event facilities for up to 1000 people on one level. The design concept of the ATLANTIC Hotel Universum was further developed for use at the racecourse hotel, where the concept of conference, accommodation and social programme in a single location was also applied. Additions were also made to the “central services” of the ATLANTIC Hotels chain in the form of central wage-accounting and IT systems (OPERA multi-property software from Micros Fidelio).

In early 2008, the ATLANTIC Hotel SAIL City, the young hotel chain’s most media-effective hotel, opened in Bremerhaven. The building’s architecture resembles an inflated sail, ideally reflecting the hotel’s location on the Weser dyke. The interior – once again based on the design of the two previously established design-oriented hotels – picks up the maritime theme. The 120 rooms on eight floors of the altogether 19-storey building offer an unobstructable view over the outer Weser Estuary. The crowning glory of this hotel is the Captain’s Lounge on the 19th floor with its panoramic view across the outer Weser Estuary all the way to the North Sea and Bremerhaven. An 86m observation platform and the adjoining Conference Center Bremerhaven with space for up to 500 people complete this unique offering in Bremerhaven.

Media interest and corresponding press reports on the ATLANTIC Hotel SAIL City have confirmed and consolidated the public perception of the ATLANTIC Hotels as a North German hotel brand. ATLANTIC today leads the market with a total of 590 rooms in five hotels in the state of Bremen.
The ATLANTIC Hotels chain is currently engaged in three more development projects in Bremen, Lübeck and Kiel. The latter two represent the first projects outside the federal state of Bremen and further boost ATLANTIC Hotels as a North German brand. All three new hotels will be ready to welcome their first guests in 2010.
