The Baltic Sea spa Travemünde
has never lost its tremendous appeal to visitors from near and far. The broad beach promenade, opened in 1899, was considered to be one of Europe’s finest even at that time. Punctually to the summer season 2012 the promenade will be completely renovated. Although richer seaside resorts with more ostentatious facilities may be attempting to overtake the prestige of Travemünde, they simply cannot offer the enticements found in the atmosphere of a busy port, the constantly changing images of the large ferries and freighters sailing into and out of the harbour. The number of guests has risen steadily over recent decades.
Maritime past and present meet in Travemünde. From the tall ship “Passat” to the sailing regatta, from the steam-powered ice-breaker to the giant ferry, the Baltic joins Travemünde and Lübeck with the entire world.
